Adopt a Boston Terrier (short coat)

Boston Terrier (short coat) Dog

Chuck the Dog needs a home

Nov 2017 - Chuck has gone through eight weeks of boot camp and is now ready for a forever home. Our behaviorist who knows Chuck the best believes the best fit for Chuck is a low energy home with no other dogs or animals. Please note: we have received Applications for Chuck that did not disclose the presence of other animals in the home – for everyone’s safety we will not place Chuck into a home with other animals – please be honest on your Applications. Chuck is currently living with several other dogs, but they are well balanced dogs who are used to living with a true leader of the pack. While Chuck has made progress in his months at boot camp, Chuck needs a strong, low energy leader who will provide him with a structured daily life style. Chuck is still very determined to be independent and make his own decisions if he believes there is a lack of leadership – and those decisions can still be bad choices for Chuck. Chuck has greatly improved his behavior around other dogs and is less reactive on leash when seeing other dogs, but he does still require an authoritative owner who he believes is in charge. Anyone interested in adopting Chuck will need to meet with our behaviorist and work with her to learn the skills necessary to bring Chuck into your home. It is apparent that some people believe once a dog goes to boot camp they come out like any other “normal” dog and they are “fixed.” That is not the case – what we learn in boot camp is what the particular dog needs in a home and owner and in Chuck’s case that is a strong leader – someone who understands it will require work on a daily basis. That is not to say that Chuck is a “bad” dog – it is just that Chuck needs more guidance and direction than most dogs and if left to his own devices there will be trouble. Chuck is a great dog and will be a fantastic addition to the right family. Please be honest with yourself and your family before applying for Chuck.

Aug 2017- Chuck is on hold.  He is currently in a boot camp with our behaviorist learning how to socialize with other dogs, walk on a leash and how to properly meet new people.  He should be ready for his forever home around mid to late October.

Watch Out Chuck Norris – there is a new Chuck in town! And this guy is a STUNNER! A real man about town! Boston Buddies newest Stud Muffin is 3 years old, 30 pounds and ready to take on the world! Chuck was relinquished by his owners to the LA Shelter with a list of negative comments about him. In turn the LA Shelter contacted Boston Buddies. In rescue we have learned to take what “previous owners” say with a grain of salt because there are always 2 sides to every story and s
ince Chuck can’t tell us his side – we know we have to give him time to show us. So, our Director headed over to the shelter to spend a little quality time with Chuck and evaluate him. She could tell this guy just needed to be in a less stressful environment. On the ride to the vet he gave her kisses and wanted to sit in her lap, once he gave her some loving he settled into his spot and was calm, cool and collected. At the vet’s office he was nonreactive to the other dogs in the vet lobby and cooperative for the doctor. Because we only had the words of his previous owners to go on we had to board Chuck until we could get to know him better. One of our volunteers took him on an outing to the park and Chuck was very well behaved. Walked on the leash nicely, did not react to other dogs, the ducks or kids. We were able to find him a foster home where is living with another dog but we don’t think Chuck really knows how to properly play with his furry roommate. His foster Mom says that Chuck is a sweetheart but does like to “test” the waters and will push the limits if allowed. He would do best in a home with a strong pack leader (kind of like Chuck Norris) who will show our Chuck who is boss!! Chuck is in the prime of his life, young and healthy with energy to spare… so a fenced yard that he could run around in would be great. He would also make a great hiking or jogging partner. Chuck is neutered, microchipped, fecal and heartworm tested (both negative) and ready for action. He might not know martial arts like Chuck Norris but he is a real knockout with his shiny coat and soulful eyes. If you are looking for an exercise partner, or just want some extra attention when you are out and about – then Chuck would make a great “wing man”.
